The Quiet Art | In Conversation with Raymond Antrobus
Southwark Presents
Raymond Antrobus is a poet who was deaf from childhood, but for years teachers read that as slow or disruptive. He didn't grow up with models. No deaf painters, performers, or poets to learn from. That shaped how he sees his own practice. This conversation opens that history. He examines other deaf and D/deaf creatives across visual art, silent film, writing, and performance. How they made work, how they thought, what they knew that the mainstream didn't. It's not a story about overcoming. It's about how creativity shifts when hearing isn't the baseline.
A BSL interpreter will be there, so deaf and hearing audiences experience the whole thing equally.
