LAMDA and Theatre503 present... “You’re going to drown And before you drown You’re going to drown me And I can’t let you do that, Oscar.” Nell and Oscar meet on a beach in Dorset. It’s 1595… or maybe 1610 (‘Time is elastic in the theatre’). Oscar has just completed his first year of university, and has returned to his ancient family seat, a scholar-poet in the making. Nell, his neighbour, hasn’t been anywhere, due to the constraints of the times. They will meet here, again and again, on this beach for the next four hundred years. Stuff will change, as it does with time, and they will try to keep up. One of them might manage. Marek Horn’s play Wild Swimming is a witty interrogation of cultural progress, gender and privilege, and a wilfully ignorant history of English Literature.
